Underground Reverie 4 Song E.P.

Crimethinc. just released an online download of an excellent 4 song E.P. of instrumental anarchist hip-hop done by a Seattle based producer under the name “Underground Reverie.” Underground Reverie’s recordings are available for free download here, and below is quoted Tides Of Flame‘s (a Seattle based bi-monthly anarchist newspaper) review of the E.P. that really hits the nail on the head:

“Underground Reverie’s debut album is throbbing, haunting, and completely amazing. Samples from helicopters, owlish flutes, various films (including Network), and eerie old songs flesh out a skeleton of delicate electronic beats. The music is as much about the horrors of civilization as it is about the raw beauty of struggle. In the liner notes, UR reflects on anarchist praxis and encourages us to keep fighting.”

Crimethinc. is also taking donations for legal support of those arrested in last month’s building occupation in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Whether or not you provide monetary support, I highly encourage those who would consider themselves comrades and enjoy a handful of fat beats to check out this release. I would say the only good anarchist hip-hop recording to date.

“No, We Can’t All Just Get Along”-Jeff Chang, IEF

This was recently posted to zinelibrary.info by the Institute for Experimental Freedom, new to the internet but a zine that has existed in physical format for some time.

Similar to the IEF’s pamphlet “Warsaw Ghetto Uprising,” this is simply some well selected excerpts from a pre-existing book. This pamphlet highlights how intense class and race conflicts in Los Angeles from the 1940′s-1990′s gave way to ramped gang warfare and full on rioting and rising tension against the police. The main historical points brought up and highlighted are the gang truces that were created autonomously without guidance of state-funded programs or the police, the drive for these lower-class and exploited communities to better their situations, and the state’s response being obvious; throwing as many youth as they could into jail.

Highly recommended reading for anyone who is interested in the history of gangs and the state’s militant response to their existence. I finished this pamphlet wanting to read the whole book, Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop by Jeff Chang.
